Let me start with a disclaimer: I love my wife and sons. They’ve enriched my life is too many ways to count. Each one is intelligent and compassionate, the two traits I admire most. I do not love The Beatles more than I love my family. With that out of the way. . . .

I’ve been a fan of The Beatles for 49 years. Over those nearly five decades (and my family aside), nothing in my life has brought me as much pleasure as The Beatles. In fact, nothing else has come close.

Why The Beatles? Primarily because of their music, of course. Their catalog is, I believe, unmatched in pop music history, and I’m convinced that no other artist or band will approach it in the future. (And I’d love to be proven wrong.)

But also because they have the best story, populated by people like Ivan and Jan Vaughan who helped make that story possible. Ivan’s parents took him out of the Quarry Bank High School because he’d befriended a troublemaker. Then he introduced that troublemaker, John Lennon, to a friend Ivan met in his new school (the Liverpool Institute) who shared Ivan’s birthday, Paul McCartney. Later, Ivan’s wife, Jan, helped Paul write the French lyrics to Michelle.

I started this blog so that I could collect, organize, and share my opinions, theories, and questions about The Beatles. I’m hoping that you’ll do the same. Email me at beatletrack@gmail.com, and let’s talk about The Beatles.
